Andrew Thompson Burdon (1899) was the youngest of five children, born to Andrew Thompson Burdon, a ship's carpenter and his wife Mary. In 1901 they lived at 150 Cleveland Street, on the Lawe Top, off Baring Street. By 1911 they had moved to 119 Cleveland Street. In August 1917 Andrew enlisted and was appointed to the South Staffs Regiment.

After the war he was a ship's carpenter on the SS Kolkata on a trip to Boston, Mass. in 1926; second engineer on the SS Caspian into New Orleans in 1929 and on the SS Bury from Hamburg. He served in the merchant service during WW2, crossing the Atlantic. I was told he progressed to Chief Engineer.

I believe that he died in hospital in Newcastle. I remember giving his wife a lift to visit him in hospital.
